Shark Attack!!

Currently I have 6 (soon to be 7 in December!) grandchildren - 3 girls and 3 boys. The boys are obsessed with a variety of things - one of them being SHARKS! I make each of my grandchildren their own quilt and right now I'm working on a shark themed quilt for my little 3 year old "T". He mostly loves all things Baby Shark and we can sing the song in our sleep!😂. I recently came across this English Paper pieced shark pattern on Etsy and I'm absolutely in love with it! The pattern and directions are amazing and this is a finished 20in x 20in quilt block. It took me a total of 12 hours -(not all at one time) to piece this block together (check out the lower part of the mouth of the Great White Shark which had 20 tiny half centimeter pieces to sew together!😵‍💫)- to complete!

If you're not familiar with English paper piecing, it is a really fun and sometimes nerve racking process of piecing a very detailed picture together. I actually love putting paper pieced blocks together. Though there are a few pretty technical steps to completing a paper piecing project you basically print your pattern out and then "piece" it together by placing your fabric against the lines on the paper in the order marked and sew on the lines. Now I can't wait to get the rest of the quilt finished!

Here are some pictures from the process...

This is what the back of the pattern looks like. It is the side that you sew on the lines with the fabric matched on the opposite of the paper.

Close up view of the Great White Shark mouth! It took me almost 3 hours to complete all those tiny little pieces for his lower and upper mouth sections!
