A Lot To Catch Up On!

I haven’t updated my blog recently and will work to be better at the technology side of my sewing school. The hands on part has been incredible and I really appreciate all of the many students who have trusted me to help them start out on their sewing journey!

I have lots to catch up on so I thought I’d share 2 quilts I finished this summer for 2 of my grandchildren. I’ve now made 6 of my 7 grandchildren a quilt and owe the littlest one her quilt - hopefully by the end of this year for her second birthday!

The first quilt is the partially foundation paper pieced shark quilt! I posted a blog about the sharks a while back and I’m so happy to say it is finished! I’m also so proud of myself that I only used scraps from my fabrics and only had to purchase the backing fabric! If you really know me you will be proud of me as well!😃. I was able to create a “school of fish” around the sharks using Missouri Star Quilts pattern using a cathedral windows spin to give the tail fin a slight curve. And of course I quilted on my long arm to give some movement of ocean waves around the sharks and fish.

My little shark-crazed grandson received it for his 5th birthday while visiting me in Arizona this past July. He loves it! I’ve added some pictures below including showcasing the quilt on his bed in his home after he returned to North Carolina.

The second quilt I finished was a gorgeous ladybug panel, I picked up in Mesa and MulQueen’s fabric shop. I saw it and had to have it for the intended granddaughter as when she was a baby she had so much hair that her mom always gave her two of the tiniest most adorable little piggy tails and she always made me think of an adorable ladybug as showcased in the panel.🥰. To make it a little larger I used another quilt block design from Missouri Start quilt and made a few tulip and flower petal blocks using fabrics from the ladybug panel line. I think it turned out beautifully and she loved it when I delivered it to her in August.

I love making these quilts for my little ones and always finish off with a hand embroidered label that simply says “Nonna loves (insert child’s name)”. The kids love the label as well and at night when I’m there visiting and help ruck them into bed, we read the label together and of course get a big hug and kiss from Nonna!😊.

Enjoy the pictures…
